Bottle Coders

Bottle coders provide a simple, cost effective way to identify individual bottles as part of a single production batch.

Bottles are a huge part of the packaging industry in America. Virtually every bottle in a supermarket or pharmacy requires an identifying batch number and an expiration date for customer safety and product control. What makes bottle coding different from other types of coding is that bottles are made of glass or some type of plastic both of which do not absorb ink in order to dry the print. As a result bottle coding is specifically dependent upon the inks available to work in any specific coder. Griffin-Rutgers offers compact, simple thermal ink jet coding systems that have quick drying, rub resistant inks available, in the color selection needed to print on clear and colored bottles. At Griffin-Rutgers we specialize in helping customers find the optimum type of bottle coder they need to do the job required by industry regulations, at an affordable cost point, and at a level of automation that fits their production situation and line speed. What is a “Bottle Coder” and is it what you need?

A bottle coder is an inkjet printing device that adds product identification or other late stages variable information to the surface of a bottle. Variable information printing can be of many different varieties ranging from a simple production date, batch number and expiration date, or bar code, but on bottles it is usually printing batch numbers and expiration dates. The secret to successful bottle coding is that many applications run at high speeds and require fast drying ink and/or ink of various colors. Our bottle coding products are based on thermal inkjet coding technology that does not touch the bottle surface while printing so bottle filling lines can operate at virtually any speed.
